The Prince’s Government and the Monaco Red Cross announced plans on April the 17th, to support relief efforts In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar last month…
The magnitude 7.7 quake caused widespread destruction, flattening buildings, claiming over 3,500 lives, and injuring nearly 5,000 people. Thousands more have been left homeless, with the humanitarian crisis intensifying by the day.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the country’s health infrastructure is overwhelmed, food and water supplies are running low, and access to essential medicines is becoming increasingly difficult. Entire communities are struggling to access basic services, as the scale of the disaster places immense pressure on local and international responders.
In response to the situation, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an emergency appeal for 100 million Swiss francs to assist in the ongoing relief operations.
Under the initiative of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Monaco has pledged immediate support. The Prince’s Government and the Monaco Red Cross will each contribute €50,000, joining international efforts to provide life-saving assistance and help affected communities recover from the tragedy. This gesture reinforces Monaco’s long-standing commitment to global solidarity and humanitarian action in times of crisis.
