In a bid to combat illegal recreational fishing, the Monaco government has introduced a new requirement: an Annual Declaration for Line Fishing. Effective immediately, anyone wishing to engage in this leisure activity within Monegasque waters must submit the declaration to the Directorate of Maritime Affairs.
The declaration can be submitted either in person, by post, or electronically, in accordance with Article O.244-8 of the Code of the Sea. To facilitate the process, the government has made the form available through multiple channels.
The form is accessible online via the Prince’s Government website under the “Public Service for Individuals” section. Alternatively, individuals can request it via email at marine@gouv.mc or collect it in person at the Directorate of Maritime Affairs, located at 20 Quai de l’Hirondelle, Monaco. The office is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 17:00.
The declaration, which is valid for one year, is simple to complete and serves to identify both adults and children engaging in recreational fishing within authorised zones. To ensure compliance with regulations, each registrant will receive a marine map outlining designated fishing areas, along with a Code of Good Conduct for shoreline recreational fishing.
For further inquiries, individuals can contact the Directorate of Maritime Affairs at +377 98 98 22 80.
