A motorcyclist in his 50s died following a collision with a lorry in Monaco on Monday evening, September 28, as reported by Monaco-Matin.
The accident occurred at around 6:30pm in the A500 tunnel, as the rider was travelling towards Monaco in the direction of La Turbie.
Emergency services found the motorcyclist in cardiac arrest when they arrived at the scene. Despite attempts to revive him, a SAMU doctor pronounced him dead shortly after 7pm.
Sixteen firefighters from the Alpes-Maritimes fire and rescue service attended the incident with six vehicles, alongside a SMUR medical team.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was unharmed.
The collision led to the closure of the A500 tunnel in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident and investigators began examining the circumstances.
Traffic was also affected in the surrounding area, with Vinci Autoroutes closing the number 56 exit from the A8 towards Monaco as well as the Laghet entrance.
The EDCF 06 traffic control squadron has been tasked with investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision.
The incident caused disruption during the evening commute, with motorists advised to use alternative routes while the emergency operation and investigation were underway.
