AS Monaco Rugby Club marked its 60th anniversary in style last weekend with a tense and emotional 25–21 victory over Obagne during the 20th day of the Fédérale 2 season…
The win served as the perfect backdrop for a celebration that brought together former players, club staff, supporters, and families—reflecting the strong community spirit behind rugby’s growing presence in the Principality.
Speaking after the match, club president Tom Mariquet and general manager Sylvain Masson expressed their pride in both the sporting result and the wider significance of the day. “We spent several months organizing this event,” Mariquet said. “It took a lot of time and energy, but we’re really happy with the result—not just the win, but the whole club coming together.”
Masson noted the positive momentum building around rugby in Monaco. “We’re seeing people from all generations here, a real mix—including many women and families—which gives us a lot of energy. It recharges the batteries and gives meaning to what we do.”
AS Monaco Rugby is growing steadily, with 400 active licensees across all levels. The club’s youth programmes and women’s teams are also flourishing, with 135 young players enrolled at the rugby school. “It’s not just about the first team,” Masson added. “There’s a whole community behind us now.”
As the club looks to the future, the 60th anniversary is both a moment of pride and a launching pad. With a solid foundation and increasing support from the local community, AS Monaco Rugby is firmly establishing itself in the sporting landscape of the Principality. The next match for the senior team takes place on 6 April.
