A 29-year-old Swiss man has been sentenced to prison after assaulting his partner during a visit to Monaco for the Monaco Yacht Show…
As reported by Monaco-Matin, the defendant appeared before Monaco’s criminal court on Friday, October 2, accused of aggravated violence following an incident at the Fairmont Monte Carlo on September 22.
The court heard that the couple had earlier visited Sass’Café, where the defendant had consumed alcohol and cocaine. After returning to their hotel, an argument escalated and the woman was struck several times, dragged by her hair and pinned down with a knee against her neck. She later told investigators she thought she was going to die.
Fairmont security staff intervened, describing the man as aggressive and difficult to control. A medical examination resulted in the victim receiving a four-day incapacity certificate.
In an unusual development, the woman discovered she was pregnant between the defendant’s first court appearance and the trial. She subsequently withdrew her civil claim and remained nearby during proceedings.
The prosecution sought a 12-month sentence, including ten months suspended. The court imposed a heavier penalty of 16 months, with ten months suspended, meaning six months to be served.
The defendant was returned directly to custody and banned from entering Monaco for five years.
