The National Council has issued a pressing call to the government to address the growing problem of abusive telephone canvassing, a nuisance plaguing residents and Monegasques alike. In recent months, and especially in recent weeks, reports have surged of unwanted calls, voice messages, and SMS spam, with some unknown callers even prompting recipients to dial premium-rate numbers.

The issue has sparked widespread frustration, with many individuals receiving dozens of intrusive calls weekly. The National Council, responding to concerns raised by affected citizens, is now demanding swift action to implement effective measures to curb this widespread disturbance. The council emphasised that the problem disproportionately impacts vulnerable groups, including minors and the elderly.

National Council President Thomas Brezzo underscored the severity of the situation, stating, “Beyond the unbearable inconvenience, some people can be trapped by offers that are often fraudulent or completely unsuited to the Monegasque reality. It is time that measures commensurate with this scourge, which affects the entire population, are put in place.”

The council’s appeal highlights the urgent need for solutions to protect residents from these predatory practices and restore peace to households across the principality. The government has yet to respond to the call for action, but pressure is mounting as the issue continues to escalate.
