A significant milestone was reached at the Ministry of State on Monday, February 6, as Monaco took its first steps toward assuming the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. This marks the first time in the country’s history that it will hold this prestigious role, which it will undertake for six months starting in May 2026.
The inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee, tasked with orchestrating this high-level presidency, brought together representatives from all government departments and the Directorate of Judicial Services. Their objective: to lay the groundwork for a seamless and impactful presidency, setting key milestones and defining the logistical and thematic structure of Monaco’s term.
Throughout this six-month period, activities and diplomatic engagements will take place both in the Principality and in Strasbourg, the headquarters of the Council of Europe. Monaco intends to use this opportunity to champion core values it shares with the institution—such as ethics in sports, children’s rights, and the fight against gender-based violence.
The presidency will culminate in a major event: the Council of Europe’s Conference of Ministers of Sport, scheduled for early November 2026 at the Grimaldi Forum. This conference, held under Monaco’s leadership, will serve as a testament to the country’s commitment to international cooperation.
