The Vendée Globe, the legendary non-stop, non-assisted, solo race around  the world, is entering its final stretch. Boris Herrmann, the German skipper  sailing under the Monegasque flag, continues to fight hard for a place in the  top 5 aboard his monohull Malizia – Seaexplorer...

This Wednesday morning, Boris Herrmann occupied the 6th position in the  provisional rankings, marking a fine progression since he was still in 9th place at  the start of the year.

While victory in the Vendée Globe now seems out of reach, the sailor is still hoping  to win back a few places before crossing the finish line. A battle for the top 5, with  10 days to go to the finish in Les Sables-d’Olonne against British skipper Sam  Goodchild (currently in 5th place).

An ambassador for Monaco and the planet

Boris Herrmann, born in Germany in 1981, is one of the faces of international  sailing. In 2021, during his first Vendée Globe, he made his mark by finishing in 5ᵉ place despite colliding with a fishing boat in the final hours of the race. In the end,  he came 4th in the rankings with the 6h bonus as he had rerouted to assist Kevin  Escoffier.

As well as his sporting achievements, Boris Herrmann is also a fervent advocate of  ocean protection. His monohull Malizia – Seaexplorer carries scientific instruments  to collect data on water quality and CO₂ emissions, contributing to research into  climate change.

For several years now, the Principality, at the instigation of Prince Albert II, has  been supporting initiatives that combine sport and environmental protection.
