The New Year in Monaco begins on a high note with performances of La Mégère apprivoisée or The Taming of the Shrew at the Salle des Princes in the Grimaldi Forum…
This celebrated ballet, choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot for the Bolshoi Ballet, has captivated audiences worldwide and is now enchanting local and international spectators.
Maillot describes the production as a joyful and comedic piece, a rarity in the world of ballet. “This work aims to connect directly with the audience while subtly exploring profound themes of human relationships,” he explains. The ballet’s vibrant score, a kaleidoscope of Shostakovich’s compositions, has been artfully arranged to create a harmonious narrative, performed live by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of maestro Igor Dronov.
A highlight of this run is the extraordinary talent of Juliette Clément, a young dancer from Menton, who stars in the titular role. Having honed her craft at the Rosella Hightower School in Cannes and the Princess Grace Academy, Clément embodies a rare and local gem in a company known for its international diversity. “Finding such exceptional talent so close to home is fascinating,” says Maillot, who believes the audience will feel a special connection to the young performer.
The vibrant choreography, stunning music, and stellar performances make La Mégère apprivoisée an unmissable cultural event. The production runs until January 4, offering audiences a final opportunity to experience this internationally acclaimed masterpiece in the heart of Monaco.
