Monaco authorities have launched an investigation into a case of attempted murder after a man in his forties was found stabbed in the Moneghetti district on Sunday evening. The victim, discovered near Lamarck Square, was hospitalised in Nice, where he underwent emergency surgery and is now reported to be “out of danger,” the Monaco Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Monaco-Matin.
The incident occurred around 21:30 on Sunday, December 1 when Monaco Public Security services received a call reporting a “bloodied individual lying on the ground but conscious” in a public area. Emergency responders quickly transported the man, an employee in Monaco who resides in nearby Beausoleil, to Pasteur Hospital in Nice. The victim sustained stab wounds to his abdomen and thigh, requiring urgent medical intervention.
Police swiftly acted on initial evidence, identifying and arresting a suspect within Monegasque territory shortly after the attack. The alleged assailant, a French resident in his thirties, has been placed in custody on charges of attempted murder.
The investigation, led by the judicial police division of Monaco’s Public Security Service, is ongoing. Authorities have located the scene of the attack and are working to uncover the relationship between the suspect and the victim, as well as the circumstances surrounding the assault.
The Monaco Public Prosecutor’s Office has commended the “particularly active” efforts of investigators in this case, ensuring that the suspect was apprehended quickly and the victim received timely medical care.
