Monaco’s government, in collaboration with the Town Hall, has launched a project to enhance accessibility at the Monaco cemetery. Starting mid-December, construction will begin on a covered car park with 30 spaces, aiming to make the cemetery more accessible to visitors paying tribute to their loved ones. The project is expected to last approximately 18 months.

Preparatory work began on Monday, November 25, with teams from the Public Works Department clearing the site. The initiative prioritises maintaining a serene and respectful atmosphere for visitors, with uninterrupted access to graves throughout the construction period.

To minimise disruption, construction will pause during funeral services, and acoustic barriers will be installed around noisy work areas. Additionally, special entrances for construction vehicles on Avenue Pasteur and the medium car park will be secured to ensure safety.

The improvements also include the installation of two lifting platforms to assist individuals with reduced mobility, providing dignified and easy access within the cemetery. Clear signage will guide visitors, encouraging the use of the lower entrance on Boulevard Charles III/Cap d’Ail and nearby public car parks equipped with elevators, such as Salines and Wurtemberg.

The government and Town Hall are committed to carrying out these upgrades with the utmost respect for the site and the families it serves, ensuring a balance between development and the preservation of the cemetery’s tranquility.
