The Prince’s Palace is being lit up in red today, Tuesday, September 1, a striking show of solidarity as Monaco marks the fifth edition of Septembre Rouge, a month dedicated to raising awareness of blood cancers, with blood, platelet and bone marrow donation back in the spotlight throughout the campaign.
Bone marrow transplants remain one of the most effective treatments available for blood cancer patients where the option is viable, making donor awareness a central focus of the campaign. Blood cancers, more precisely known as haematological cancers, cover a wide range of conditions, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, illnesses that differ significantly from one another, are often poorly understood by the public, and can be genuinely difficult to detect.
Septembre Rouge exists to close that knowledge gap, giving the public a clearer understanding of these diseases while encouraging more people to consider donating blood, platelets, and particularly bone marrow.
The Government’s backing for the campaign also reflects a broader commitment to prevention and screening for both communicable and non-communicable diseases, priorities that remain central to Monaco’s public health policy and align with recommendations from the World Health Organization.
