His Serene Highness Prince Albert II has confirmed his intention to merge Monaco’s two national television channels, TV Monaco and Monaco Info, under a single organizational structure.

Speaking to Monaco-Matin during National Day celebrations, the Prince outlined his vision for greater efficiency and cohesion between the channels, emphasizing the challenges of sustaining two separate entities in such a small country.

“We are too small to have two different channels; it is not possible to compete on the same subjects,” the Sovereign explained, adding that this reorganization would go beyond simple collaboration to a full integration. He acknowledged that the launch of TV Monaco in September 2023 as an independent entity, required for its inclusion in the TV5 Monde network, might not have been the optimal approach in hindsight.

“If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t do it like that,” he admitted. Despite the significant investment in TV Monaco, Prince Albert stressed the need to focus on long-term returns, which are not solely financial.

The Minister of State, Didier Guillaume, previously noted the high costs associated with operating two channels, suggesting that a unified structure would be more sustainable. Responding to these concerns, the Prince has tasked the government with studying how the two channels can merge while retaining their distinct programs and missions.

“I don’t want competition that goes in all directions,” he concluded. “We need everyone in the same house, with a clear vision and different focuses, but working together.”
