The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in partnership with SEK International University, has announced the launch of the 2025 edition of its Environmental Photography Award. From September 3, photographers worldwide, both professional and amateur, are invited to submit their entries until November 3, via the competition’s official website. Participation is free.
The award, now in its fifth year, aims to celebrate the planet’s beauty and highlight human interaction with nature. Photographers can submit their work across five categories: Polar Wonders, Ocean Worlds, Into the Forest, Humanity versus Nature, and Change Makers: Reasons for Hope. A total of 36 photographs will be selected, and 7 awards will be given out, including a 5,000 euro prize and a trip to Monaco for the Environmental Photographer of the Year. Additional prizes include grants for category winners and special awards for public and student favourites.
This year, the Public Award winner will also be invited by SEK International University to its research station in the Ecuadorian jungle. The winners will be announced on April 15, 2025, followed by an exhibition in Monaco and international displays in cities such as Rome, Madrid, and Washington D.C.
The 2025 jury is headed by Ami Vitale, a National Geographic photographer, known for her work highlighting the interconnection of human and natural worlds. The panel also includes renowned photographers like Emanuele Biggi, Aaron Gekoski, and Tom Gilks. The competition, chaired by conservation photographer Sergio Pitamitz, continues to promote the Foundation’s mission to raise awareness about environmental issues through compelling visual storytelling.
