On September 9, Eric Arella will take over from Richard Marangoni as the Controller in Charge of Monaco’s Department of Public Safety. Marangoni, who has held this position for eight years, will transition to the role of Special Advisor to the Minister of the Interior.
Arella brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having been appointed police commissioner at just 23. With a 37-year career in judicial investigation, he has served as Regional Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Ajaccio, Director of the Regional Judicial Police Service in Marseille, and Area Director of the Southern Judicial Police. His extensive background and collaboration with the Department of Public Security position him well to enhance Monaco’s security and quality of life.
Marangoni, who rose through the ranks to become director of Sûreté Publique in February 2016, has significantly developed the institution’s structure, action methods, and adaptability to evolving crime and environmental changes. His expertise in human resources will be invaluable in his new advisory role. Arella’s appointment marks a new chapter for Monaco’s public safety, promising continued improvements under his leadership.
