The Monegasque Olympic Committee has unveiled the five athletes set to represent Monaco at the 2024 Paris Games. Swimmers Lisa Pou and Théo Druenne were named official flag bearers during a ceremony at the Monaco Yacht Club, attended by HSH Prince Albert and HSH Princess Charlene.
Prince Albert, in his role as President of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, expressed his pride in the athletes, commenting “you will defend our colours. You will do so with enthusiasm, tenacity and talent. On behalf of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, I wish to express my most sincere and warm encouragement, and, wholeheartedly, I wish you to fully experience these Olympic Games.“
The athletes will continue their preparations for the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris from Friday, July 26 until Sunday, August 11. Discover all the Monegasque Olympians below:
Lisa Pou secured her spot by finishing ninth in the 10km open-water event at the World Championships in Doha. Pou, a multiple medalist at the Games of the Small States of Europe, will make her Olympic debut in the marathon swimming 10km event.
Théo Druenne, a bronze medalist in the 5km at the 2023 French Junior Championships and competitor in the 1500 freestyle at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Druenne will compete in the 800m freestyle in Paris.
Marie-Charlotte Gastaud, the national record holder in the 200m and 400m hurdles recently achieved personal bests at the World Indoor Championships and European Championships. She will make her Olympic debut in the 100m event.
Quentin Antonelli, a standout in coastal rowing with multiple medals at the World Coastal Rowing Championships, Antonelli will compete in the single sculls event, marking his second Olympic participation.
Xiaoxin Yang, ranked 10th in the Olympic standings and 15th globally, secured her place by winning the Olympic qualifying tournament in Doha in 2021. This will be Yang’s second Olympic appearance in table tennis.
