Sunset returns to the Méridien Beach Plaza from Friday, May 24 to Sunday, May 26, bringing with it an all new DJ lineup and never before seen features in the greatest Monaco Grand Prix party yet. NEWS.MC had the pleasure of meeting Sunset co-founder Thomas Peeters ahead of the highly anticipated event’s 11th edition.

Sunset wasn’t always the place to be seen after the big race on Sunday; “Before we created Sunset in 2013, we were always inviting our friend’s out during the GP, it became quite hectic and expensive to go to different venues, so we decided to organise our own happy gathering with friends and that’s how the essence of sunset was born. I told my partner Cédric Houdrouge we can make something much bigger, a beach party,” Peeters said of the events origination.

“No one created a beach party before Sunset, it sounds ridiculous, but Sunset is the first beach party in Monaco ever,” Peeters told NEWS.MC, adding that “we had no big ambitions when we launched the event, we just wanted to invite friends to the party.”

This rapidly changed for the friends turned business partners, as Sunset spread across borders. “What reunites Cedric and I is the music. Together, we now create music festivals around the world. Sunset is the first, and now we have seven festivals. We book over 400 djs every year, making maybe more than 50,000 people dance, but Monaco is the flagship Sunset event. Sunset is made in Monaco.”

Sunset first saw stardom on its opening year, catalysing the inevitable success of the Principality’s beach party. “Nico Rosberg won his first Monaco GP and celebrated after at Sunset, that really gave us our first big break. Now we would love to relive the same moment with Charles Leclerc, that would be amazing,” Peeters commented.

Open from noon until midnight from Friday until Sunday, Sunset is expected to attract over 7,000 people this year to the biggest Sunset site to date with some welcome surprises. “This year we are much bigger, we are taking over La Petit Plage, which will become more of a lounge area with the music of Casa Sunset, a restaurant by the pool serving South American cuisine to a different kind of backing track.”

As far as the DJ lineup goes, Peeters confirmed a stellar lineup, featuring Luciano, Carlita and Pabels to name just a few. “Year after year we have a different line-up, and it’s even a different vibe between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sunsetters won’t want to miss anything.”

When asked how Sunset came to be at the Méridien Beach Plaza, Peeters answered “Meridian were our partners since the beginning. Marriott truly believe in an event that can attract and do something different. They took on the challenge, and it was a challenge to trust a new brand, but now we enjoy a winning partnership for Sunset in its 11th edition, and we are very grateful for the trust from the Méridian Beach Plaza.”
