On Friday March 22, 2024, at the close of Monaco Ocean Week, the Secretariats of the RAMOGE Agreement and the Pelagos Accord officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding.

These two agreements of cooperation between France, Monaco and Italy working for the preservation of the Mediterranean were represented by Mr. Florent Champion, executive secretary of RAMOGE and Ms Viola Cattani, deputy to the executive secretary of the Pelagos Agreement.

The ceremony took place in the large conference room of the Oceanographic Museum, in presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco as well as the Ambassadors of France and of Italy in Monaco, His Excellency Mr Jean D’Haussonville and HE Mr. Giulio Alaimo.

This protocol aims to establish the principles of active collaboration between the two Agreements and to facilitate the exchange and sharing of information while encouraging the implementation of activities and joint initiatives aimed at preserving marine mammals and their habitats.

The first initiative will focus on the organisation of a workshop in the autumn of 2024 in order to raise awareness of the problem of marine waste which represents a major threat to biodiversity.
