AS Monaco head coach Adi Hütter and the club’s general director, Thiago Scuro, seemed altogether satisfied with the Principality side’s form as they looked back at a strong first half of the season, following Monaco’s 1-2 win over Toulouse, away on the evening of Wednesday, December 20.

The travelling Monegasques conceded a Toulouse goal in the first five minutes of the match, but Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder saved the day yet again, this time with a first-half brace. The number 10 scored from a tight angle at the 26th minute before converting a penalty at the 44th minute to bring his side ahead, and showed class by not celebrating scoring against his former club.

Monaco overcame an Aleksandr Golovin red card at the 51st minute to claim their last victory of 2023, an important win for the club which allows them to hold on to their third-place standing in the Ligue 1 table as another eventful year in football draws to a close.

Speaking after this last win of the year, Hütter took to the microphone to commend his team, saying “this is not the first time that we have reacted in this way after conceding the first goal, to turn the match around… It’s a good way to end the year, and of course we wish all our supporters very Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas!”

Meanwhile, General Director Scuro concurred with the head coach: “I think this match shows the character this group shows. Despite everything, we had to fight against the scenario this evening. There will obviously be areas to improve for the second part of the season, but we end on a good note.

“We are currently in the top three, which is our main goal this season. We showed a lot of very positive things during the first 17 match days. But we can definitely do better in certain areas. The idea is to take advantage of the winter break to recover, regain strength, but also take the time to work on these details to improve,” Scuro added.

Monaco will face Lens in the Coupe de France Round of 64 on Sunday January 7 before returning to Ligue 1 action with a match against Reims on Saturday, January 13.
