Cinderella – Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo

In his version of Cinderella, Jean-Christophe Maillot uses the context of a blended family where grief is impossible, to create vain and idle characters attempting to exist in a world dripping in artifice. The choreographer juxtaposes this universe with the naked simplicity of Cinderella. Her bare foot becomes the symbolic centre of the ballet and celebrates a part of the body without which dance could not exist. Omar – Concert

The list of Omar’s achievements is a long and storied one. Cast even a glance at the highlights of a career well into its fourth decade – a ‘signature’ hit tune There’s Nothing Like This that led on to eight solo albums of unique, evolving sound; collaborations with some of the biggest names in pop music history; a catalogue of side-projects more extensive than many artists’ entire working lifetimes; a one-man stage show; an MBE pinned to his chest by King Charles – and you could forgive the guy if at any time he showed signs of resting on those laurels. Far from it.

From Friday, July 21 to Saturday, July 22 at 21:00 at La Note Bleue.

Dans le cerveau de Maurice Ravel – Theatre

In the Brain of Maurice Ravel, created by Julien Fisera and Vladislav Galard, is a playful and poetic reverie around the composer’s last days. Indeed, Maurice Ravel was suffering from a neurodegenerative disease which had an undeniable impact on his art.
The play takes place between the four walls of the Belvedere living room, the residence acquired by Maurice Ravel (played by Vladislav Galard) and which he shares with Madame Reveleau, his faithful governess (played by Thomas Gonzalez). In twelve short scenes, the show paints with great tenderness the portrait of a composer engaged in a struggle with himself, humorously reveals an intimacy shaken by illness and rehabilitates the place of Madame Reveleau with the composer. Anthony Laguerre’s drums set the tempo for this jubilant insolence and this fight between two great and fierce spirits. On Friday, July 21 at 21:30 at the Fort Antoine Theatre. Discover more and reserve your tickets here.

Santo Sospir – Mauro Restiffe / Jean Cocteau – Exhibition

The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco presents “Santo Sospir”, an exhibition by the artist Mauro Restiffe, inspired by the house occupied and decorated by Jean Cocteau in Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat between 1950 and 1962. This silent conversation, orchestrated by Restiffe in the Villa Sauber, is like a cinematographic montage that alternates long shots and close-ups, monumental prints and smaller formats, fostering an embodied vision of the tattooed villa, where a (faceless) self-portrait of the author appears. Until Sunday, October 15 at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco – Villa Sauber. Discover more here.

Monet en pleine lumière – Exhibition

This major exhibition is part of celebrations to mark the 140th anniversary of Claude Monet’s first visit to Monaco and the Riviera, where the great impressionist, already halfway through his long life, would discover the landscapes and light that were to be the turning point of his work and career. Around a section devoted to the paintings he produced during his stays on the Riviera, featuring twenty-one loaned pieces displayed for the first time close to the very places they were painted, the exhibition looks at the master’s work, from his early days in Le Havre to his final paintings in Giverny, from the perspective of his constant quest to capture light. This exhibition-event entitled Monet in Full Light is curated by Monet expert Marianne Mathieu. Read our article here. Until Sunday, September 3 at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
