In welcome news for AS Monaco supporters, the club have announced the extension of Aleksandr Golovin’s contract until 2026.
Golovin is currently enjoying his best season yet with Monaco, having proven to be a key part of Philippe Clement’s squad with six goals and six assists since the start of the season to help bring Monaco up to third place in the Ligue 1 table as it stands. The Russian international has been on particularly good form since the season resumed after the December break, having been decisive in Monaco’s 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain, while also scoring the league’s goal of the month with an unstoppable shot against Brest.
The 26 year-old midfielder joined Monaco on transfer from CSKA Moscow for 30 million euros after a standout 2018 World Cup, which saw the likes of Chelsea compete for his signature. Golovin settled into his new side quickly, and has since then made 166 appearances in red and white, making him Monaco’s longest serving player with 23 goals and 32 assists to boot. Speaking about his extension with Monaco, Golovin said “I am very happy to continue my adventure with AS Monaco and I would like to thank the Club for this mark of confidence. I am very satisfied with this opportunity to be able to continue my progression here. The team is doing well in the league again this year and I am very motivated to continue to help to finish the season as high as possible.”
