For the fourth consecutive year, the Department of the Environment has registered the Principality for the European Week for Waste Reduction that will take place from November 19 to 27 (SERD).

This is a European initiative that calls for awareness-raising campaigns on the sustainable management of resources and waste in all member countries, European and non-European.

The Government is looking for groups and organisations to take part in the programme, by setting up events for the general public or a targeted audience: colleagues, employees, members of an association, students, and so on.

The theme for the 2022 edition is: “Recycled and sustainable textiles”, under the slogan “Waste is outdated”!

From production, distribution, use and post-use (collection, sorting, recycling and ultimate management of waste, which is most of the time linked to incineration and disposal landfill) the textile industry has a high environmental impact.

SERD invites us to rethink our ‘mode’ of using textiles and to discover more sustainable solutions.

All initiatives are welcome, even those that do not correspond to the theme of the year: let us remember here that the activities must be oriented around the 3 Rs: Reduce / Reuse / Recycle waste or be a collection operation. A first information meeting will be held on September 13. Contact the Department of the Environment for more information: environnement@gouv.mc
