Sparky the Wonder Dog has gone to that great dog park in the sky, a reader tells us.

“I saw him about 10 days ago and he was very slow and clearly not very comfortable. He breathed his last yesterday morning. He had been with another retired priest in the Diocese of Quebec, Terry Blizzard. His own dog died of old age in the summer and he takes pride in caring for disabled animals. He already knew Sparky so he was a perfect fit.”

In 14th birthday greetings to Sparky on April 10, Father Walter wrote on Facebook: “Here he is portrayed in one of four favourite activities (right up there with eating, but less and less: the other two: walks and play).

Spencer Hodge’s portrait of Sparky keeps watch!”

Sparky was Father Walter’s constant companion during Walter’s time as the Chaplain of Saint Paul’s Monte-Carlo, and will be fondly remembered by many in Monaco.

Our thanks to Arthur Reynolds for passing on this news.
