On February 22, 2021, the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly was held virtually. This year’s theme was “Strengthening actions in favour of nature to achieve sustainable development goals.” Led by Professor Alain Piquemal, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Principality’s own delegation was present in the high-level dialogue.

Professor Piquemal contributed to the discussion with his speech, which shed light on the measures that have been taken by Monaco to ensure the preservation of biodiversity on its territory, the renaturation of the city and the reduction of plastic waste.

This message was delivered to the representatives of more than 90 States, and reaffirmed the commitment of HSH Prince Albert and His Government to sustainably economic development and the protection of the planet. Professor Piquemal’s speech can be viewed below:
