The annual World Stars Football Match charity match held at the Stade Louis II brings big names together for an entertaining game of football, and this year’s edition was no exception, as Charles Leclerc was joined by his teammate Carlos Sainz and other very recognisable faces from Formula 1 in a goal-filled match with HSH Prince Albert in attendance on Tuesday, May 23.
Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly and even the sport’s chief executive Stefano Domenicali also took part in the fixture alongside two-time Monaco Grand Prix winner Mark Webber. The drivers’ team was victorious in the end with four goals to three, but at what cost?
Home hero Leclerc took a tumble just 90 seconds into the game, getting well-acquainted with the turf of the Stade Louis II, falling face first after scuffing a tackle. The Scuderia Ferrari man came close to redeeming himself with a goal of his own, having received a perfect pass from Sainz, but Leclerc shot the ball straight to the keeper. Already a world class driver and talented pianist, you can hardly expect the man to be great at everything.
Taking the tumble in his stride, Leclerc shared the moment with his followers on Instagram:
Meanwhile, fellow Ferrari man Sainz was injured during the match, sparking worry among fans as a picture of him receiving treatment in the AS Monaco pitch side shelter appeared on the internet:
The Spaniard took to Instagram to calm the tifosi down, writing on his story that he is “well and completely ready to race this weekend in Monaco.”
