An English man in his 40s drowned off Mala beach in Cap d’Ail early in the evening of Friday September 13, according to local French daily Monaco Matin. He had been with a group of friends who had been drinking heavily, according to reports.
A lifeguard attempted cardiac massage after the victim was carried to the shore unconscious. A doctor from the Monaco emergency services was sent to the scene with a fire crew, but he was also unable to save the man.
Investigators from Cap d’Ail are carrying out an investigation into the incident. Members of the party, from Essex, returned to the UK during the weekend.
