A deeply personal experience has inspired the creation of a new Monaco association dedicated to helping children cope with the loss of a parent, offering emotional, practical and financial support during one of life’s most difficult experiences…

Founded by Sasha Petit, Les Enfants du Courage (Children of Courage) was born from her own experience of losing both parents just two months apart, in 2023 and 2024, when she was just 18 years old.

Although Sasha received considerable support and had the reassurance of knowing her parents had made arrangements for her future, she recognised that many young people facing similar circumstances are not so fortunate.

Determined to make a difference, she established the association to support children who have lost one or both parents, beginning with raising awareness of parental bereavement and its emotional consequences.

As the organisation develops, it aims to provide practical assistance with administrative procedures, funeral arrangements and other responsibilities that can become overwhelming following a family death. Financial assistance is also among its longer-term ambitions, particularly for children requiring psychological or psychiatric care that families may struggle to afford.

Through the initiative, Sasha hopes to ensure that no bereaved child is left to navigate grief and its accompanying challenges without support.
