A new association is being established in Monaco in memory of Lorenzo Renou, a young SM Basket player who tragically lost his life in a road accident while returning from an away match in May 2025…
Founded by his parents, LR9 by Lorenzo aims to make travel safer and more affordable for amateur sports clubs and cultural associations. Already operating in France, the initiative is now expanding into the Principality to support local organisations facing the financial pressures of travelling to competitions and events.
The association works with transport and hospitality partners to negotiate preferential rates on accommodation, vehicle hire, maintenance, fuel and meals. These offers will be brought together in a digital catalogue, alongside a journey-planning tool helping clubs identify participating businesses along their routes.

For Lorenzo’s parents, the motivation is deeply personal. Amateur teams frequently face difficult decisions when matches finish late in the evening, with limited budgets sometimes forcing players and coaches to undertake long overnight journeys rather than stay in a hotel.
By reducing travel expenses, LR9 by Lorenzo hopes to make overnight accommodation a more realistic option, helping clubs prioritise safety over cost.
Through this initiative, Lorenzo’s family hopes to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy.
