The worlds of sport, broadcasting and technology have converged on Monaco this week, as Sportel Monaco welcomes leading international industry figures to the Grimaldi Forum for three days of business, innovation and networking…

Opening on Monday, October 19, the event brings together major broadcasters, including ESPN, alongside representatives from sporting organisations such as the NBA, NHL and ATP. Nearly 2,500 participants are expected, with discussions covering broadcasting rights, commercial partnerships and the future of sports media.

Sportel also provides a platform for emerging technologies, with exhibitors demonstrating advances in artificial intelligence and automated sports production. Among the innovations showcased are AI-controlled cameras capable of tracking sporting action with minimal delay, offering broadcasters new possibilities for capturing live events.

Speaking to Monaco Info, Executive Director Marine Picoulé described the 2026 edition as particularly strong, highlighting an extensive programme of conferences and masterclasses. A new Chief Marketing Officer Brand Programme also brings sponsors and commercial brands into discussions traditionally dominated by broadcasters and rights holders.

The event’s cultural highlight is the Sportel Awards, attended by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, celebrating outstanding sports photography, documentaries and audiovisual productions. This year’s winners include I’m Carl Lewis! for Best Biopic, Welcome to Wrexham for Best Docu-Series and Personal Best for Best Thematic Documentary.

Former French international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was recognised with the Autobiography Award for Les Jours d’Après, while the awards jury was chaired by former Brazilian footballer Sonny Anderson.
