The hall of Monaco’s town hall has been turned into a showcase for children’s thoughts on equality, just days before the International Day of the Girl Child.

The Mairie de Monaco held a breakfast on Thursday, October 8, devoted to equality between girls and boys and to tackling stereotypes. The International Day of the Girl Child itself falls on Sunday, October 11.

The display on show comes from a mini-workshop held on August 11 for children at the Miniclub, with the support of the Committee for the Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights. Nine volunteers took part. They shared their thoughts and questions on equality anonymously.

Their answers were gathered on several boards and put on show in the town hall’s entrance hall for the breakfast. The town hall says the presentation puts a spotlight on children’s views and helps to raise awareness of equality and stereotypes from an early age.

The United Nations declared the International Day of the Girl Child in 2011, to draw attention to the inequalities facing girls around the world.
