Patrice Pastor has responded to the disclosure of several contributors to the Monaco Cactus satirical blog, strongly rejecting comparisons between the publication and France’s Le Canard enchaîné…
As previously reported by NEWS.MC, former Palace communications consultant Yves Romestan acknowledged his involvement with Cactus after being questioned for around 12 hours by Monegasque police. The investigation follows a series of complaints concerning Cactus and its predecessor Piment de Monaco, several of them lodged by Pastor.
Speaking through his lawyer Antoine Vey, Pastor has now launched a fierce attack on Romestan and those associated with the publications. Vey accused the contributors of operating anonymously to “attack, tarnish and threaten” people and described Romestan’s decision to reveal his involvement as a damage-control exercise.
He was equally dismissive of Romestan’s comparison of Cactus to Le Canard enchaîné, the long-established French satirical newspaper, calling the comparison “a joke”. Vey argued that established newspapers publish articles under identifiable authors rather than allowing writers to remain hidden whilst targeting individuals.
Concluding on behalf of Pastor, Vey said they were satisfied that what he described as an attempt to undermine Monaco’s institutions had failed, adding that the judicial process was continuing.
