Monaco’s summer motoring exhibition From Yesterday to Today has drawn to a close after three months at the Prince’s Car Collection, with attendance increasing by more than 30 per cent compared with the previous summer…
Built principally around vehicles from Prince Albert II’s collection, the exhibition brought together historic and contemporary cars to show how some of the automotive world’s most celebrated models have evolved across generations. Among the pairings were the Renault 5 Turbo of the 1980s and its modern successor, alongside Ferrari’s legendary F40 and the new F80. The collection was complemented by cars loaned by private collectors and leading names from motorsport.
Monday evening’s closing event brought additional star power, with Fernando Alonso and Sébastien Loeb joining Prince Albert. Alonso had contributed his Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR and spoke about his longstanding relationship with the Principality, where he has raced throughout his Formula One career.
Nine-time World Rally Champion Loeb was reunited with one of the Citroëns associated with his extraordinary career. Seeing the car again, he said, brought back memories of the nine world titles he achieved with the manufacturer.
Loeb signed the car during the evening, whilst Prince Albert added his signature to the 1,000-horsepower Laffite LM1 Monaco, bringing the curtain down on a successful summer exhibition.
