Young writers from across the Principality put their skills to the test as the 16th High School Students’ Prize formed part of this year’s Monaco International Book Fair…
A total of 62 students from Lycée Albert Ier and Lycée François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré (FANB) took part in the competition, tackling the demanding task of producing an essay designed to test their reasoning, argumentation and writing abilities. Topics invited students to reflect on subjects including growing up and leaving childhood behind, as well as the increasingly contemporary question of whether it is possible to have a virtual friend.
Around 15 prizes were presented across several categories during an awards ceremony celebrating the strongest essays. One student, Isabella Rolo-Yekutiel from FANB, enjoyed a particularly successful evening, collecting several awards for her work.
She explained that her essay drew on memories of her childhood and became deeply personal after several drafts helped her find the direction she wanted to take.
The competition accompanied the 15th edition of the Monaco International Book Fair, which brought together more than 120 authors for two days of exhibitions, meetings and conferences.
