The Prince’s Government has reassured parents after traces of Legionella bacteria were detected at Collège Charles III during routine testing over the summer, saying corrective measures have been completed and the issue is now considered resolved…
Interior Minister Lionel Beffre addressed the matter during a press conference at the school, explaining that the traces were identified in July as part of regular monitoring carried out during the summer holidays.
Legionella bacteria can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a potentially serious respiratory infection. Following the discovery, measures were taken throughout the summer to address the problem before pupils returned to school.
According to the minister, these included thermal and chemical treatments of the affected systems as well as the installation of filters. He said the necessary conditions were now in place to prevent further problems. Beffre sought particularly to reassure parents who may have become concerned after learning that traces of the bacteria had been discovered.
“Thanks to everyone’s vigilance and the work that has been done, we can consider this matter to be settled,” he said.
The testing and subsequent intervention took place while pupils were away for the summer, allowing the necessary treatment to be carried out ahead of the new school year.
