AS Monaco Basket’s battle to remain in France’s top flight has suffered another setback, but the Roca Team is continuing its fight for reinstatement ahead of the 2026/27 season…
As reported by Monaco-Matin, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) delivered an unfavourable opinion on Friday, according to the club’s lawyer. Monaco therefore remains excluded from the professional leagues following the French Basketball Federation’s decision of July 31.
However, the reigning French champions have now formally asked the FFBB’s Federal Bureau for an urgent review, arguing that their financial position has changed significantly since that original ruling.
The club says historical debts to suppliers and other parties have been settled, agreements reached over the waiver of shareholder claims and, crucially, a new investor has committed €10 million for the 2026/27 financial year.
Monaco believes Article 925 of FFBB regulations permits a fresh examination when significant new information emerges after an initial decision. The Roca Team has also indicated that it would accept increased financial oversight or other conditions imposed as part of any reinstatement.
Despite winning four trophies last season, Monaco acknowledges that sporting success cannot override financial requirements. The Federal Bureau must now decide whether the new guarantees justify reopening the case.
