Yacht Club de Monaco’s young ILCA sailors delivered a standout collective performance at the French Youth Championship in Martigues, with three of the club’s boats finishing inside the top 10 in the boys’ ILCA 4 fleet, a feat no other club managed to match across the 65-boat field.
Mark Slotboom led the way, finishing fifth overall on 68 points after a challenging start to the regatta. The young sailor climbed steadily through the fleet over the course of the week, posting three fourth-place finishes and a third along the way. Close behind him, Giorgos Papavasileiou took sixth on 73 points, having opened his own championship strongly with two fifth-place finishes followed by a second in the opening three races.
Gabriel Lanteri Gaglio rounded out the club’s top-10 presence in 10th, while Antoine Sauval completed Monaco’s four-strong top-20 showing with a 19th-place finish. Across ten races and four different sailing styles, the strength of the group as a whole stood out just as much as any individual result, with Slotboom and Papavasileiou finishing neck and neck for fifth and sixth place.
Yacht Club de Monaco was also represented in the ILCA 6 class by Roman Lampert, who finished 31st in a considerably larger fleet of 56 competitors after 12 races, a tougher category where gaps between sailors widened significantly as the week progressed.
For the club’s Sports Section, the results in Martigues reflect the reward of sustained collective effort, with four Monégasque sailors finishing among the top 19 competitors in the ILCA 4 fleet alone, a clear sign of a squad continuing to build strength in depth at national level.
