A group of budding young performers has been discovering the magic of the stage through Monaco’s Pass’Sport Culture programme, spending five days immersed in the world of theatre with director and playwright Éric Sautoni…
This year’s workshop centres on Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid, with participants aged around 15 learning how to transform the classic comedy into a lively 20-minute performance. Along the way, they have explored far more than just memorising lines. Voice projection, diction, movement, rhythm and character development all form part of the experience, helping the young actors build confidence while discovering what it really takes to perform in front of an audience.
The workshop brings together complete beginners and those with previous theatre experience, creating an encouraging environment where teamwork and creativity take centre stage. For many, the highlight is stepping into someone else’s shoes, whether that’s the mischievous maid Toinette or the hilariously hypochondriac Argan.
Participants say the programme is as much about having fun with friends as it is about acting, with rehearsals filled with laughter as well as hard work.
Their efforts will culminate in a public performance on Friday evening at the Mediterranean Centre for French Studies, where families and theatre lovers will have the chance to enjoy this fresh, youthful take on one of Molière’s best-loved plays.
