Monaco’s Lisa Pou secured a sixth-place finish in the women’s 10km open water event at the European Aquatics Championships on Tuesday afternoon, racing through the Seine despite having her preparation disrupted by a bacterial infection in the lead-up to the event.The Monégasque swimmer completed the course in a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 15 seconds, finishing level with Russia’s Ekaterina Sorokina. Given the setback in her build-up, the result stands as an encouraging one for Pou, who arrived in Paris as one of the field’s leading contenders, having won bronze in the 10km at last year’s World Championships and reached the European 10km final on two previous occasions.Pou’s championships are far from over. She returns to the water on Wednesday for the 5km event, before closing out her programme on Friday in the 3km knockout sprint, giving her two further opportunities to build on Tuesday’s result across the remainder of the competition.
