A new documentary celebrating Monaco’s sporting culture will be showcased on Wednesday, May 27 at 17:00 at the Grimaldi Forum, in a special screening organised by the Monégasque Olympic Committee.

The film, titled The Rock of Champions, is directed by Yann-Antony Noghès and explores how the Principality—despite its size—has developed a strong reputation as a breeding ground for elite athletes competing on the international stage. The screening will be held in Monaco and is open to the public by invitation, subject to remaining seats.

Bringing together a wide range of disciplines, from Formula 1 and tennis to swimming, cycling, boxing, freediving and equestrian sports, the documentary highlights how Monaco has become a training and development hub for high-performance sport. It does so through first-hand testimonies from athletes who have built their careers from or within the Principality.

Among the sporting figures featured are Charles Leclerc, tennis talent Valentin Vacherot, freediving world record holder Pierre Frolla, and doubles specialist Romain Arneodo. Their stories form the backbone of the film, tracing the discipline, setbacks and breakthroughs behind their international careers.

Director Yann-Antony Noghès uses a mix of archival footage and personal interviews to build a portrait of Monaco’s sporting ecosystem, where limited geography contrasts with an unusually dense concentration of professional structures, coaches and international visibility. The result is a narrative focused less on glamour and more on the grind behind elite performance.

The screening at the Grimaldi Forum is expected to draw athletes, officials and members of Monaco’s sporting community, reinforcing the Principality’s ongoing push to position itself as a serious player in global sport development rather than just a picturesque backdrop for it.
