Former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn has emerged as a potential investor in AS Monaco Basket following his presence at the EuroLeague Final Four in Athens.
According to reports first published by French sports daily L’Équipe, Mashburn held discussions with EuroLeague officials during the weekend and attended several high-profile events surrounding the competition, including the EuroLeague gala evening.
The former Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat forward was also seen alongside Vassilis Spanoulis, the EuroLeague legend and former Monaco head coach, further fuelling speculation over a possible future involvement with the Principality club.
While no official agreement or takeover has been confirmed, the reports arrive at a significant moment for Monaco’s basketball project as the club continues seeking to establish itself among Europe’s elite both on and off the court.
Mashburn is no stranger to European basketball investment. In 2021, he joined a consortium alongside renowned coach Rick Pitino and former NBA executive Stu Jackson to acquire French club Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez. The group’s involvement lasted roughly a year before ownership returned to local stakeholders amid financial and sporting difficulties at the club.
A three-time NBA All-Star during a 12-year professional career, Mashburn has since built a substantial business portfolio in the United States, particularly in franchise ownership and investment ventures.
Any future involvement in Monaco would likely attract significant attention within European basketball, especially given the club’s growing stature in the EuroLeague and ambitious long-term development plans.
