Monaco bid farewell today to Georges Lukomski, the longtime photographer of the Princely Family, during a funeral service held at Monaco Cathedral on May 19 in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II…
Born in 1932, Lukomski became the first permanent official photographer of the Prince’s Palace, serving the Princely Family from 1957 until the early 1980s. Working with great discretion and professionalism, he documented some of the most significant moments in Monaco’s modern history while also capturing more intimate and personal scenes within the life of the Princely Family.
Trained by celebrated American photographer Howell Conant, best known for his iconic portraits of Princess Grace, Lukomski developed a refined photographic style that combined elegance with authenticity. Over more than two decades, he created an extensive visual archive that today remains preserved within the Palace Archives.
His photographs offer a unique perspective on the Principality during a transformative era, chronicling official ceremonies, family moments and the evolving image of Monaco on the international stage.
In a statement issued following the ceremony, the Prince’s Palace paid tribute to Lukomski’s faithful service and extended its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones during this period of mourning.
