Monaco welcomed one of classical music’s brightest young talents this week as Aozhe Zhang, winner of the 2025 Premio Paganini, performed at the Salle Garnier alongside the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra on May 13th…
At just 17 years old, Aozhe Zhang was unanimously awarded first prize at the 58th edition of the prestigious competition, considered one of the world’s oldest and most respected contests for violinists. Founded in 1954 and named after legendary composer and virtuoso Niccolò Paganini, the Premio Paganini has helped launch the careers of numerous internationally acclaimed musicians.
The Monaco concert was organised at the initiative of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, ambassador of the Paganini Foundation, and marked the first time a Premio Paganini winner has performed in the Principality.
Conducted by Alessandro Bonato, the evening’s programme included Mendelssohn’s “Italian Symphony” and Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1.
Organisers said the competition’s mission extends beyond selecting exceptional performers, aiming instead to support young musicians throughout their artistic careers by connecting them with major orchestras and international audiences.
The performance concluded with warm applause from the audience at Salle Garnier, celebrating both technical brilliance and the emotional power of music.
