Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has announced the appointment of Romain Meiran as its new Chief Operating Officer, marking another major step in the restructuring of the group’s leadership ahead of a planned international expansion.
Meiran will officially take up the role on July 1, 2026, and join the company’s Executive Committee, working alongside Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Valeri.
The appointment follows governance changes unveiled by the group last month, including the removal of the traditional General Manager position. SBM said the revised structure is designed to improve operational efficiency and better position the company for future growth in an increasingly competitive luxury hospitality market.
In his new role, Meiran will oversee a large part of the group’s hospitality and lifestyle operations, including hotels, restaurants, bars, spas and entertainment venues. His responsibilities will also extend to major Monaco institutions operated by SBM, including Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, One Monte-Carlo, New Moods and Jimmy’z Monte-Carlo.
Marketing, sales, information systems, security and fire safety departments will also fall under his supervision as the group looks to streamline operations and strengthen commercial coordination across its portfolio.
Meiran arrives in Monaco with more than three decades of experience in luxury hospitality and palace hotels. Over the course of his career, he has held senior positions at some of Europe’s best-known establishments, including the Ritz Paris, Plaza Athénée, Hôtel de Crillon, Le Meurice, Royal Mansour Marrakech and Cheval Blanc properties in Courchevel and Paris. Most recently, he served as Director of Hotel Operations for the Barrière Group.
SBM said his experience managing high-end hospitality projects, hotel openings and operational transformations would be particularly valuable as the company prepares to open its first hotel outside Monaco in 2027 — a move widely viewed as a significant milestone in the group’s international ambitions.
Under the revised structure, several key divisions — including finance, gaming, human resources and artistic direction — will now report directly to Stéphane Valeri.
The reshuffle reflects SBM’s broader strategy of modernising its operations while maintaining its position at the top end of Monaco’s luxury tourism and entertainment sector, where competition has intensified in recent years from both established global brands and emerging lifestyle hospitality groups.
