The Principality’s long-running Monegasque language competition has officially begun, with 1,902 students taking part across Monaco’s schools this year…
Organised jointly by the Municipal Institution, the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports (DENJS) and the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions, the annual competition remains a key initiative aimed at preserving and promoting Monaco’s national language and cultural heritage.
Pupils from CE2 through to secondary school level are participating in the various examination sessions, including students in sixth, fifth and third year classes, as well as lycée students enrolled in the optional Monegasque language programme. Written examinations began this week and will continue until May 13, before oral assessments take place between May 28 and June 3.
The competition has been held since 1981 and is regarded as an important part of Monaco’s wider efforts to safeguard its linguistic and cultural identity for future generations.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, in the Cour d’Honneur at Monaco City Hall, where successful students will be recognised for their achievements in the language.
By continuing to encourage younger generations to learn and use Monegasque, the Principality reinforces the role of language as one of the enduring pillars of its national identity and traditions.
