Monaco United continued its remarkable debut campaign by lifting the Marenco Cup following a dominant 11-0 win over Villeneuve-Loubet in the final on Sunday, May 10.
Already crowned district champions earlier this season, the Monaco side added another trophy to its growing list of achievements in what has quickly become one of the standout stories in regional football.
Led by former international striker Marco Simone, Monaco United entered the competition among the favourites and lived up to expectations with an emphatic performance in the final. Despite having beaten Villeneuve-Loubet twice during the league campaign, the Monegasques approached the match cautiously, aware that cup finals often produce surprises.
Any tension disappeared quickly once the game began. Monaco United took control from the opening whistle, dominating possession and pressing high up the pitch. Their attacking pressure paid off almost immediately as chances turned into goals at a relentless pace.
By halftime, the score already stood at 4-0, allowing Simone to rotate his squad and give every player on the team sheet an opportunity to feature in the final.
The second half followed much the same pattern, with Monaco United maintaining their intensity and continuing to find space against an overwhelmed Villeneuve-Loubet defence. The goals kept flowing until the final whistle confirmed an extraordinary 11-0 scoreline.
Speaking after the match, Marco Simone praised both the result and the collective mentality shown by his side throughout the competition.
The victory seals a league-and-cup double in the club’s first season since its creation just nine months ago. Attention now turns to the next challenge, with Monaco United preparing to face Olympique de Marseille’s reserve side in the Mediterranean Cup final next weekend.
The club has already secured a place in history by becoming the first District-level team ever to reach the final of that competition.
