A fascinating journey through the history of transport and communication is set to open at Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies with the new exhibition Voyage au fil du timbre, running from May 11 to September 27, 2026…

Presented on the Terrasses de Fontvieille, the exhibition brings together more than 180 rare postage stamps alongside an exceptional postal document dating from 1870, specially loaned by the Prince’s Palace. Through these miniature historical records, visitors are invited to explore the technological revolutions that transformed travel, trade and human connection across the centuries.

The exhibition traces the evolution of transport from the earliest messengers travelling on foot or horseback through to modern innovations that reshaped the movement of people, goods and ideas. Organisers describe the collection as a reflection of humanity’s constant drive to overcome the limits of distance and speed.

A dedicated section focuses on the development of leisure and racing automobiles, highlighting iconic cars and the enduring fascination with performance, engineering and motorsport culture. The display examines both the technical and aesthetic evolution of racing machines from their origins to the present day.

By linking transport history with philately, the exhibition offers a cultural, artistic and technical perspective on the development of modern society.

The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 17:00, extending to 18:00 from July through September. Admission is priced at €3.
