HSH Prince Albert II has sent a message of solidarity to US President Donald J. Trump following a serious security incident in Washington during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner…

In a letter addressed to the President, the Sovereign expressed his relief that President Trump, the First Lady and all those involved were safe after what he described as an event of “exceptional gravity.”

The incident unfolded on Saturday evening at the Washington Hilton hotel, where shots were fired by a suspect later identified as a 31-year-old man from California. According to US authorities, the individual was quickly intercepted by security forces before he could carry out a broader attack. Early findings suggest he may have intended to target members of the administration, though investigations remain ongoing.

In his message, HSH Prince Albert II extended, on behalf of the Monegasque community, Princess Charlène and his family, expressions of support to the President and the American people. The letter reflects Monaco’s longstanding position in condemning violence and standing alongside its international partners in moments of crisis.

The swift response of security services prevented further escalation, but the incident has nevertheless raised concerns over political violence in the United States, as authorities continue to assess the suspect’s motives and background.
