The Principality of Monaco will host the first official event marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Japan with a special “Japan Day” celebration on March 21, 2026…
The event, organised by the Association Monaco Friends of Japan in partnership with the embassies of Monaco and Japan, will highlight two decades of friendship, cooperation and cultural exchange between the two nations.
The official ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Japanese Garden and the esplanade of the Grimaldi Forum. Guests and members of the press will be welcomed from 10:30 a.m., followed by speeches from dignitaries representing both countries.
The ceremony will also feature a number of artistic highlights celebrating Japanese culture. The renowned Wako Rising Sun troupe will present a performance of traditional Wadaiko drumming, an art form known for its powerful rhythms and deep cultural roots. The event will also include a unique artistic collaboration between the drummers and Mimoza Koike, principal dancer of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, symbolising the creative dialogue between Monaco and Japan.
Following the official ceremony, the public will be invited to explore Japanese culture through a series of exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations running from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to discover traditional Japanese craftsmanship, experience a matcha tea ceremony and visit cultural and tourism stands presented by Japanese organisations.
The event will underline the strong diplomatic and cultural relationship that has developed between Monaco and Japan over the past two decades.
