Monaco Legend Group returns to Time On Show this week as part of Rétromobile’s 50th anniversary edition, marking a major moment in the European collecting calendar…
As a founding partner of Time On Show, MLG will once again present an exceptional selection of important timepieces in Paris from January 28 to February 1, during what is widely regarded as Europe’s most prestigious classic car event.
This year’s presentation will include highlights from Monaco Legend Group’s FOCUS Private Sales, an off-market curated selection of private treaty pieces, and the first previews from the upcoming Exclusive Timepieces auction in Monaco this April. At the heart of the display is one of the most legendary modern Rolex chronographs ever produced, the platinum Daytona “Zenith” reference 16516. The watch is fitted with a black mother-of-pearl dial a configuration believed to be unique, and one of only four platinum examples known.
Long surrounded by rumour, the platinum Zenith Daytona is now firmly established as one of the most important Rolex rarities. Commissioned by former Rolex CEO Patrick Heiniger, fewer than five examples were ever produced, each given as personal gifts to close friends and business associates. Unlike the platinum Daytona introduced commercially in 2013, this earlier version was never offered to the public and carries its own dedicated reference number, engraved between the lugs, along with full platinum hallmarks and a unique matching platinum clasp.
The example presented by Monaco Legend Group is also remarkable for its provenance, having been gifted on the occasion of a Paris wedding in October 1999, with the case back engraved accordingly and complete original documentation retained. Beyond its rarity, it represents a fascinating insight into Rolex’s private world at the very top of the company.
Alongside this extraordinary Daytona, MLG will also showcase other significant platinum pieces, including a rare Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711/1P pre-series model, as well as an exceptional Rolex Ovettone ref. 6304 in platinum, fresh to market from the original owner’s family.
Throughout the event, Monaco Legend Group’s specialists will be on site offering live valuations and private consignment consultations, welcoming collectors to discover pieces where history, provenance and rarity converge, making Time On Show at Rétromobile not just a destination for car enthusiasts, but a true highlight of the international watch collecting season.
