AS Monaco athlete Cassandre Beaugrand has withdrawn from next month’s European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, choosing instead to focus on the remainder of the World Triathlon Championship Series season…
The reigning Olympic triathlon champion had enjoyed an impressive return to track competition this year after giving athletics greater priority following a challenging 2024–25 campaign. Her performances included French records over 5,000 metres, 10km on the road and, most recently, the 3,000 metres at the Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco, where she clocked 8min 32.86sec.
Despite expressing a strong desire to compete in Birmingham, Beaugrand had previously indicated she would only consider the championships if she ran below 8min 30sec in Monaco. Following discussions with her team, the decision was made to withdraw.
Her manager, Julien Galland, said the athlete wanted to respect both the sport and her competitors by not entering the championships unless she was capable of performing at her highest level.
The decision allows Beaugrand to concentrate on defending her position in the World Triathlon Championship Series, where she remains firmly in contention for another overall title after victories in Alghero, Quiberon and London.
Galland added that Beaugrand intends to continue combining elite athletics with triathlon in future seasons, carefully balancing both disciplines around her major competitive goals.
